Whalen Still Dogged by NCPA Ethanol Stance
Today's Quad Cities Times has an article about a new Democrat ad on the air that questions Whalen's credibility on ethanol.
Anyone who has been watching Whalen since the beginning of his bid for Congress knows that he is committed to Iowa agriculture (and has the endorsement of the Iowa Farm Bureau).
However, his time spent at the National Center for Policy Analysis, as POLICY CHAIR, is causing him problems once again. You may recall that this issue came up in the primary, and is now the topic once again.
Whalen's campaign is using the same old line, that as Policy Chair, he didn't actually have input on policy stances, and that the NCPA's stance on ethanol was actually just the views of one of it's members.
Braley's ad claims that President Bush and Mike Whalen don't get it and that Bruce Braley supports ethanol and Iowa farmers. I think claiming the owner of the Iowa Machine Shed doesn't support agriculture is a pretty tough argument to sell.

He may call it the IOWA Machine Shed, but the business is incorporated in Illinois and that's where his tax dollars go. Maybe Braley should be clearer - Whalen doesn't support IOWA agriculture.
Braley should spend more time explaining his own positions. Bruce Braley is going to lose this race because he is running a crappy campaign.
Don't call Braley out too soon, this race is all Braley.
Whale has a whole bunch to answer for and the Braley campaign is just getting started.
Whalen's millions won't bail him out of the messes he's made w/the NCPA.

It has always surprised me that Braley doesn't refer to Mike Whalen as "Illinois Businessman Mike Whalen" every time he refers to him.
It also amazes me that there hasn't been more stories about his worker's wages compared to his competitor's wages. It's been common knowledge, according to friends of mine who have worked for him, that you could go to the hotel or restaurant across the street and make $2+ more per hour.
I may be a conservative, but this race is truly about choosing the lesser of the evils. The only thing that would make me lean toward Whalen is the fact that the U.S. Communist Party seems too comfortable with Braley in giving him their "peace candidate" status.

Scoop, have you read the story about Whalen getting $3million to move his corporate hq over to Illinois? Way to support Iowa Mike Mike Mike!

Did anybody else watch Whalen get his ass kicked by Braley in the debate? I got a call from a statehouse candidate asking if I was involved in the campaign and if I was that I needed to be fired for letting him do so poorly.
I have nothing to do with this race.

Since this thread/blog seems dead-in-the-water at the moment perhaps the owner won't mind an "extended-subject" posting.
Watching our President just now I am struck that the poor man is exactly the liability to his Party that he's being made out to be. It's said that all politics is local . . . . except when it isn't and this year it certainly _isn't_. Personally and within the circle of my acquaintances the Iowa 2nd race and the Iowa gubernatorial race is tied lock stock and barrel to the failed Republican administration. If I can add in the (primarily) Republican congressional corruption the idea of voting for any Republican this time seems even more remote.
BTW, this is posted by a conservative Democrat who voted for Leach every time but his first run, for county and city level Repubs from time-to-time, and for Bush in 2000.
