Rove Headlines Whalen Fundraiser
With the nominees decided two weeks ago, the respective campaigns are now getting back to work publicly.
Shortly after the primary, John Edwards made a campaign stop for Democrat Bruce Braley.
Late yesterday it was announced that Karl Rove would make two appearances in Iowa to raise money. First, an event for Mike Whalen in Waterloo, the second for Jeff Lamberti in Des Moines. Tickets are a hefty $250 for the Whalen lunch.
This could be a great event for Whalen. Rove is a very smart man, and the best when it comes to winning elections. And, it's great to see the Whalen campaign hard at work right after the primary. Clearly, neither candidate is wasting time running up to November, and I'm sure it will only serve to make this race all the more interesting.
I wonder if there will be any response to the Rove event from the Dems? Rove is not a popular guy in their world, and has been blamed for many of the country's policy 'misteps' in recent years. There may be an opportunity for Braley to note that while in the primary Whalen was running as an outsider, his first move is to be joined by someone who couldn't be more tied to the current (unpopular) administration.

Holy Crap, I was about to delete you from my blog roll.
Yeah I figured there would be a short-lived downtime after the Primary, so I took a break for a while.
I'm back now ready to watch these guys duke it out through November.
Welcome back Scoop! I think Rove coming just shows that the NRCC is clueless as to what the different districts care about. Sending Rove into the first district is suicide for Whalen. Sending him to Braley's town is just plain stupid.
It's June. Whelan will raise money and Rove helps secure his Republican base. Nobody, other than hard core angry Dems, will care that Rove or anyone else visited the 1st District.
It will be forgotten about in 2 days and Mike X 3 will be counting all his $250 checks.
Solidify his base? Mods?
There will be slightly more republicans voting for Whalen in the general election than the primary. Conservatives hate the guy for his positions on issues coupled with those who know Mike think he's an asshole.
I agree with 7:03. I think he was able to buy his way through the primary, but won't make it through a general.
So Whalen bought his way through the primary and the trial lawyers bought Braley's nomination for him? Iowa's 1st is certainly another sad example of American democracy.
As compared to Florida or Ohio?
